Alloy Dry Skid Systems

ETS supplies high abrasion resist alloy dry skids for furnace hearths, engineered to support steel billets for both top and bottom fired furnaces.

These high nickel/chrome Alloy Dry Skids offer a highly effective alternative to rows of refractory fusion-cast blocks. The system incorporates a sub-hearth layer of refractory to provide a support base for the metal skids, and a top (working) hearth layer of low-cement refractory brought up to the top level of the metal skids.

In general, the installation cost of an Alloy Dry Skid system is comparable to conventional systems, while delivering a significantly longer service life.

Furnace Water Cooled Skid Pipes

ETS are suppliers and manufacturers of heavy wall skids pipes and fittings for furnace skid systems commonly found in Walking Beam and Pusher Re-Heat Furnaces.

• The skids are water-cooled to minimise deformation and maximise durability, making them well suited to demanding operating conditions.
• Longitudinal skids pipes can be supplied with stainless steel or cobalt rider bars. These rider bars withstand the mechanical stresses of billet movement through the furnace and extend operational lifespan of the skids.

Precast Refractory Insulation

Effective insulation of water-cooled skids is critical. Operating at very high furnace temperatures >1000 degC, uncontrolled heat loss to the cooling water becomes a major cost factor and must be minimised.

Over many years, ETS has developed and refined a precast skid insulation system that delivers an excellent return on investment, typically within a few months, and represents a key contribution to overall furnace efficiency.
